The first song to be heard publicly off the new Caedmon's Call album Overdressed is now on the band's MySpace page. CLICK HERE to hear it.
The song is called "Share in the Blame". It was written by Sandra McCracken, features a duet between Derek and Danielle and has one of my favorite guitar solos I've ever played. Love to know your thoughts!

I am loving it! It is awesome! The guitar solo is amazing as well.
lame.
Mmm, new music.
It starts out sounding exactly like "The Weight" by The Band. The cadence is really similar too... Did anybody else catch this? Do you hear it, Andrew?
p.s...and i really like the solo.
Awesome......
I'm seriously so excited................
Great song! Good to hear Derek singing with Caedmon's again.
The solo was pretty good, but I kinda lost it in lower sections. Not sure if that's just because of the bit rate or compression...
I almost leapt out of my skin to listen to this. It's really an interesting song because I've been reading a lot of stuff recently that this just really goes along with and it is just terrific. YAY!!!!!!!!!
Also, I am glad to hear the webgrounds worked well, even though I didn't participate. I'm sure I'll have another chance.
Ryan beat me to the punch. The first couple of lines--with the exception of a note or two--sound exactly like "The Weight" by the band. Nice ears, Ryan.
On to more substantive stuff--though there isn't really a "killer" hook, with only two listens, I've got to say that this a GREAT song. First, the song is great, a superbly written song. And there's a great "message" without it being telegraphed five miles away, like CCM does.
Honestly, Danielle isn't one of my favorite female singers, but she has never sounded better than on this track. Man, her vocal work is spot on with this song. Same thing with Derek; they sound excellent in the individual passages and together.
And the guitar solo is perfect, Andy--just what the song needs at that point. Like Ben Shive, though you could have gone nuts, you didn't offer up more than was necessary to compliment and reinforce the musical theme of the song. There's just enough pop so that we enjoy the sizzle without getting burned by grease (whatever the heck that means).
The track just pops and sparkles all the way through, which I suppose says as much about the mixers/engineers/producers, as the performers--but for whatever reason, it sound absolutely great.
More, more, more, more. I can't wait to get my hands on the entire project.
Freaktastic.
man, I should've said "more like 'Share in the LAME.' " I'm losing my sarcastic touch.
when are y'all gonna write a song titles "Share (in) the Bell"?
I can dig.
So what guitar did you play that solo on? It sounds acoustic, but electric at the same time. Is a hybrid or just an acoustic with effects on it?
Chasemonkey: I don't know if the stereo will come through on the streaming that MySpace does, but you'll hear an electric in the left channel and a really sweet old Gibson acoustic in the right.
Nick: I'm trying to determine what your penance should be for botching the sarcasm. Maybe a week of watching The McNeil-Lehrer News Hour?
Terrific little pop-folk-rock number. The chorus especially is a nice surprise...it wasn't where I thought the song was going (melodically), but it's a cool, beautiful left hand curve. Does that make any sense?
Oh, and I liked the guitar solo as well. It sounded old-school, a bit like Clapton (when he's mellow).
Awesome! Thanks for sharing it.
Geof:
Do you mean your grandfather's old Gibson? That must be pretty cool to hear your granddad's guitar on a Caedmon's track. :)
Awesome song. Sandra is one of my favorite songwritters.
Geoff: *sigh* fair enough.
Sandra's such an awesome writer.
And the solo's pretty cool, too. :)
very nice. the solo was the first thing that grabbed me about the song. it makes it in my opinion... ties it all together
Very nice.
I really dig the song and I too couldn't help but notice the resemblance to "The Band". I love the way Derek and Danielle sound together! It's like old times but cooler somehow.
There is no McNeil-Lehrer News Hour anymore. It's the News Hour with Jim Lehrer. I think that technicality gets you off the hook, nickflora. McNeil ran off to do other things.
BTW, from what I can hear on my pathetic dial-up, I like the CC tune.
