thunderstorm
Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 04:26PM
I've been thinking a bit about fear recently, what it is, what it isn't, why we do it, etc... My friend Chris Mason had an interesting post about it on his blog last week that's given me a couple of images to think on, as well, particularly the image of a sleeping child.
That image, however, does not apply to an awake child during a thunderstorm. Like the one we just had. This may have been the first time Ella was old enough to be scared by thunder, and man, it freaked her out. It was pretty amazing to get to be the comforter, though, as she climbed into my lap and made herself as small as she could in my arms. This Dad stuff is incredible.
In other news, a site called Suite101.com just did a great review of The Morning that you can read here. This has been an amazing record as far as press goes. I don't think people have ever responded so well to anything I've done before. And most of them really liked Coming To Life. It's really nice to hear that people are enjoying it, since most of it was made with just Cason and I in my basement. You can start to really wonder if what you're doing will make any sense to anybody else.
I've got a couple of things up on ebay this week and I'm pretty sure that all of you will want every single item and should probably start bidding extraordinary amounts of your hard-earned scratch right now. Here's the link.
I went by Shane's studio last night to hear the track we've been working on this week. Shane tracked the drums for my latest record and mixed it. Oh, and he blew my mind. I came to the conclusion that I'm a moron and don't have a mailing list, so I'm going to try and fix that. I'm going to offer this song for the price of your e-mail address. Hopefully I can figure out a way to make a banner to a page where that transaction can be quick and easy. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated. I'm just realizing how great it would be for me to be able to get news to people when something big was going on instead of hoping they wander over to my site in time to catch it. Thoughts? Suggestions? Bueller?
Well, that's about it for me today. I did an interview this morning with Mike Parker, who runs a site called BuddyHollyWood.com that should be up sometime soon. I'll let you know. Hopefully via e-mail.
As always, thanks for dropping by and I'll have more news to report very soon.

Coming to Life is probably one of my all-time favorite albums. just so you know...
I was in my wife's doctor’s appointment the other day. Inside the exam room and propped up on the medical shelf right next to the sink, the giant popsicle sticks and the plastic toy heart…. Andrew Osenga’s “The Morning. Well done.

As far as email lists go, it depends on what you want. If you want it to be free and you can host it yourself you could go with http://tincan.co.uk/phplist" rel="nofollow">phplist or http://mojo.skazat.com" rel="nofollow">DaDa Mail.
If you just want quick and simple and money isn't an object you could use MyEmma or Constant Contact.
If you want to set it up so that people receive the song when they sign up, you could just add a special link to the welcome email. That way, whenever someone signs up, they'll get their welcome email and they can just click on the link and download the song.
Just a couple ideas. Hope that helps.
Hey AO,
Great review; it's right on as far as I'm concerned. It truly is a GREAT piece of work. It must be gratifying to get all the affirmation you're getting from this record. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
How are the Lawnmower shirts coming along?
I just bought a keyboard, or I'd totally buy yours off you. Bummer!
